Itinerary

DAY 01: RECEPTION – WALK IN PRIMARY & SECONDARY FOREST

The journey begins when you arrive in Puerto Maldonado to board an outboard boat along the Madre de Dios River to Ecolucerna Lodge (approximately 1 1⁄2 hrs downriver). Upon arrival you will enjoy a tasty lunch made from organic ingredients and native flavors. After lunch you will take a walk along the natural trails, where you will discover and learn about the primary and secondary forest, its components, uses, man-made transformations, and its relevance to the world. This walk will end at night where you will have the opportunity to observe the behavior of nocturnal flora and fauna of the Amazon.

Returning to the Lodge you will enjoy a restorative traditional dinner.

Meals: Lunch and dinner

DAY 02: SANDOVAL LAKE & NIGHT CAIMAN SAFARI

Today you will live a day full of emotions. After having a nutritious breakfast, you will get ready for a walk along the Tambopata National Reserve, which will take you to Sandoval Lake. Here you will understand why Madre de Dios is known as the biodiversity capital of Peru. You will learn about the conservation work of the Reserve and about the formation of the lake, sailing in a canoe through this body of water, home of the endangered giant otter, the blue and yellow macaw, and one of the largest freshwater fish in the world, “the Paiche”.

At night you will have an interesting excursion, sailing along the Madre de Dios River, to learn about its ecosystem, Amazonian ravines, and the behavior of nocturnal fauna on the river banks. Our day ends with a traditional dinner in the dining room.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 03: TAMBOPATA RIVER EXPEDITION – OBSERVATION TOWER

We will start the day with an early breakfast to recharge our batteries before our adventure of traveling from the lower Madre de Dios River to a tributary in the upper part of the Tambopata National Reserve.

A combined boat and car trip awaits us until we reach the impressive “Chunchos clay lick zone” on the Tambopata River, another end of the national reserve with unparalleled biological wealth.

After lunch, we will be able to enjoy impressive views from the observation tower, strategically located to offer panoramic views of the jungle. From its top, we will enjoy the immensity of the landscape, with the possibility of seeing more fauna and flora that enrich this ecosystem. This experience will allow us to completely immerse ourselves in the beauty and tranquility of nature. Later, you can join one of the hiking activities in the Amazon jungle and learn a little more about the conservation work and wildlife recorded in this area.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 04: VISIT TO COLLPA CHUNCHOS – CHECK OUT IN THE CITY

We will start the day early with a visit to Collpa Chunchos, an emblematic spot where various species of birds, such as parrots and macaws, congregate in search of mineral-rich clay. We begin our journey at 5:30am, at which time we should already be in front of the clay deposit and prepare to have a picnic-style breakfast.

This natural spectacle is a unique moment to closely observe the behavior of these birds in their habitat, surrounded by the sounds and vibrant colors of the jungle. A fascinating behavior that connects directly with the unique biodiversity of the region.

After enjoying this experience, we will return to the accommodation downriver to check out. You will have time to organize your belongings before beginning the transfer back to the city of Puerto Maldonado.
